Our Mission Statement: " The primary mission of the West Macon Fire Department is to provide a range of programs and training, designed to give you the knowledge you need to help protect the lives and property of the West Macon fire district from the adverse impact of fires, sudden medical emergencies, or dangerous conditions created by man or nature.
About Us: West Macon Fire and Rescue was Established in 1984, our first fire station was located off U.S. 64 West at Cartoogechaye Creek Campground who donated land to us to build our fire department. There were approximately 650 people from the Carson, Cartoogechaye, and Patton communities that signed a petition of interest to have West Macon Fire and Rescue established as a fire department. We started off with 22 members in which 6 are still active members on the department, and we only responded to fire calls. Around 1990 we became the 2nd fire department in Macon County to start running medical calls at a Medical Responder Level, and few years later started operating at an EMT-Intermediate Level. In 2004 our department was flooded as result of Hurricane Ivan so we had to relocate to our current location. Currently West Macon has 32 active Firemen and 6 active Junior Firemen on our department in which we have one full time paid member. Out of our 33 members,17 are medically trained; 8 EMT-Paramedic's, 2 EMT-Intermediate's, 6 EMT-Basic's and 1 Medical Responder. We also have 3 Technical Rescuers and 6 NC Firefighter Level 1, 2 and 3. West Macon Responds to an average of 220 calls per year that consist of Structure Fires, Brush Fires, Vehicle Fires, MVC's, Foot Searches, Medical calls, and Public Assists. Within our fire district we also do a wide variety of community services such as fire alarm checks, car seat inspections, and ect.
